Volunteers
Volunteers can be a big and unique contribution in parts of development work. A close co-operation with local Nepalese partners in a setting of a intercultural partnership enables to learn new things and to compile together ways of solutions. However, this needs a detailed preparation on subjects such as development work and aid, country-information and an understanding of the Volunteers own role and behaviour for the time being in Nepal. To live for a longer period with or in a community requires sensitivity and an adequate understanding of equality. Because the Volunteers operate at the Grass's root level, they have immediate access to the society and their needs. Injustice and unfair systems are faster visible for them. This enables them to develop a better understanding for the problems and needs of other people. The work as a Volunteer is valuable in two regards. On the one hand, it allows the transfer of knowledge, on the other hand, however, also the personal growth which can be looked as an essential and enriching tool for the whole life. This counts in the optimum case for both sides, because by the equivalent exchange also the partners can profit. A good preparation for the Volunteering is essential though. JOY is providing such training for all interested Volunteers, free of cost!
