Health Situation in Nepal
Nepal belongs to the poorest countries of the world. About 50% of the children suffer from lack of food and malnutrition. The baby mortal rate lies by 8%. The life expectancy is in average 54 years. According to a ranking of the WHO Nepal's health system is one of the lowest of the world. There is no health insurance in the Nepalese health service. Therefore, the patients have to pay all treatments themselves. A large part of the population lives under the poverty line. Hence, many people take up amateur treatments and rituals in hope that this might help. In Nepal there is furthermore a dramatic need in nursing staff, doctors and hospital beds. On a doctor there come about 25,000 patients.
Besides these facts people especially in remote parts of Nepal don't know much about preventing themselves from diseases. The lack of information regarding diseases such as HIV, Heptitis, TB and many others are causes for transmission. A lack of Hygiene with it’s several consequences such as Dhiarrhoea are another aspect of the need to bring more awareness to the people.
