  • JOYS 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM)
  • Joy Foundation Nepal has concluded its 13th AGM on 14th of August 2010 successfully at Hotel Country Villa in Nagarkot. President Mr. Babu Kaji Shrestha presented the overall project and programs of JOY. On the same occasion General Secretary Mr. Mrigendra Pradhanang presented the progress report of Joy Foundation Nepal for the fiscal year 2066/67. The financial report, presented by the treasurer Mr. Juju Bhai Shakya has been unanimously past. During this AGM the old Board was thanked for their services over the last two years. The new Board was elected unopposed. New President of JOY is Mr. Raju Shrestha, 1st Vice-President is Mr. Amir Hada, 2nd Vice President Mr. Mrigendra Bdr. Pradhanang, General Secretary Mr. Y.N. Gupta, Secretary Mr. Juju Bhai Shakya, Treasurer Mr. Unil Narsing Rana, Executive Members are immediate past President Mr. Babu Kaji Shrestha, Mr. Deepak Ratna Sthapit, Mr. Khamsung Gurung. After the conclusion of the official program, participants enjoyed fundraising activities, such as Bingo.


  • Child Sponsorship and FEAT support
  • One child has been sponsored by JOY in the last fiscal year. 12 year old A. Karki has received a sponsorship for the period of one year for her schooling in a Boarding School.

    As part of JOYs FEAT (Further Education and Training for Youth) Program, three especially challenged youth received trainings according to their interest and request. S. Neupane, a young visual impaired man with a passion for music has received a training in performing on Octopad instrument. K. Bhandari, a young physically impaired Lady has received a basic computer training. K. R. Chaaudhari, a young man tied to a wheel chair received a training in graphic (web) designing.


  • Eye Camps in Prison
  • In the months of May and beginning of June JOY has supported eye screening camps in 4 prisons: Bhadra Jail, Mahila Jail, Central Jail and Dhulikhel Jail. With the technical support of Tilganga Eye Hospital and the coordination of Buddhist Education and Social Development Centre Nepal (BESDEC) altogether 692 prisoners got their eyes checked. Out of those, 108 got spectacles prescribed, which JOY will be contributing. Four persons were diagnosed with cataract and will be undergoing surgery, which also JOY will be financing.


  • Organization Management Training in Lamjung
  • On 1st of June 2010 JOY conducted a Management Training in a Radio Station in Lamjung. A special focus was on young people that seek for motivation and guidance. This radio station is the only one in Lamjung and addresses all regional issues, focusing also on human rights activities. A more intense follow up Training is requested.


  • YOGA Course at School
  • In March a Yoga course was conducted at Purnabal Plus, school for HIV/AIDS affected children in cooperation with Patanjali Ayurvedic Kendra Private Limited and JOY. The children received every morning Yoga lessons, in order to introduce them to health supportive breathing techniques.


  • Report Writing and Presentation Skills Workshop at JOY
  • On 19th to 21st March 2010 a Three-Day Workshop in Report Writing and Presentation Skills was successfully conducted at JOY Foundation Nepal office by our Advisor and Training Consultant from Germany.

    Altogether fifteen participants from Society of Sunkoshi-Indrawoti (SUIS), Association for the Welfare of Intellectual Handicapped (AWIH), Campaign for Equality (CfE), Buddhist Education and Social Development Centre (BESDEC), Nepal Integrated Development Society (NIDS), Punarbal Plus, Support In Nepal, Network NGO, New Nepal Disabled Society Centre (NNDSC) and Youth Managed Resource Centre joined the workshop. Very good results were accomplished due to the participants' enthusiasm and group spirit. The main content of that workshop was to learn to write Project Reports, to develop Presentation techniques and get practice in Presentation Skills. The final evaluation of the workshop showed the importance of such workshops. Most participants requested a longer duration of such a workshop, and more NGO work related subjects for upcoming trainings.


  • Teacher Training in Lamjung
  • From 19th to 20th of February a teacher training in a governmental school in Pamchok, District -Lamjung, Region- Gandaki was held with the support of Joy Foundation Nepal. The Training Consultant of Joy Foundation and two German Volunteers who were already working in schools in Nepal have conducted this training. Main contents of this training were Teamwork, teaching methods, lesson plans and work plans. Nine teacher and members of the school management committee were joining this training. Many teacher, esp. in remote parts of Nepal, have no or only limited access to further education programs. They lack knowledge on different teaching techniques. Therefore teacher trainings can help them to broaden their knowledge and experience different ways of teaching.


  • JOY contributes blankets in prison
  • On 9th of February JOY has contributed blankets to the prison in Dulikhel. Especially during the cold season inmates have to face difficult conditions in prison. Therefore JOY as well as NAFA and BESDEC have been contributing blankets to the people in prison.


  • Computer Contribution
  • On 1st of January 2010 JOY has started the new year well off by donating and distributing 9 computer to Nepal Traditional Handicraft Training Centre. Through this donation JOY wants to help to preserve and transfer traditional handicraft making skills.


  • Computer literacy training for women.
  • From August to November 2009 a computer literacy training for women was held in cooperation with Youth Managed Resource Centre (YMRC) at Sankhu. Many women in Nepal esp. in remote parts have no access to computer or internet. Many possibilities arise with the right use of these facilities. Knowledge, information, exchange can be provided through internet. The world becomes apparently very small and close. Nevertheless knowledge on the use of computer or internet is required. Through the training 25 women gained experiences on the benefits of the internet.


  • Eye-camp in Sipaghat/Kavrepalanchok
  • From 24th to 26th November 2009 an Outreach Micro Surgical Eye Camp at Sipaghat - Kavrepalanchok was held in cooperation with Tilganga Eye Hospital and Nepal Australia Friendship Association (NAFA). Out of the 1043 outpatients, 173 persons have been operated during the camp. These camps are especially important in remote areas, where people have no or only limited access to hospitals.


  • Volunteer Training
  • In October/November a Volunteer Training program was held at Joy Foundation Nepal. Foreign Volunteers coming to Nepal to work in several social organizations have participated in a one week training that should help them getting prepared to their working field in Nepal. After this course the Volunteers start working full time in social projects and schools.


  • Project Management Workshop at Joy Foundation Nepal
  • On 16th to 18th November 2009 a Three-Day Workshop in Project Management was successfully conducted at JOY Foundation Nepal office.

Very good results were accomplished due to the participants enthusiasm and group spirit. The main content of that workshop was to learn to develop a Project plan, learn to use PM Tools, get to know about Monitoring and Evaluation and finally get some insights in proposal writing.


  • 12th Annual General Meeting
  • Joy Foundation Nepal has concluded its 12th AGM on 21st of August 2009 successfully. President Mr. Babu Kaji Shrestha presented the overall project and programs of JOY. On the same occasion General Secretary Mr. Mrigendra Pradhanang presented the progress report of Joy Foundation Nepal for the year 2008/2009. The financial report, presented by the treasurer Mr. Juju Bhai Shakya has been unanimously past.


  • Opening of Patanjali Exhibition and Sales Counter at JOY
  • On the 21st of August an exhibition and sales counter of Patanjali Ayurvedic products was successfully opened in Joy Foundation office building. From this day onwards Patanjali products will be available Sunday to Friday 10am to 5pm. All benefit goes to JOY and its projects. For further information feel free to contact JOY office.


  • Health Camp in Gosainkunda, Rasuwa District successfully concluded
  • From 1st to 7th August a health camp in Gosainkunda, Syaprung VDC, Rasuwa District was held in cooperation with “Support in Nepal” a Nepalese based NGO. 393 people received free health checkups, medicines and treatments, provided by a well experienced medical team. People, who usually have no or only very limited access to medical services can consult doctors during this camp, free of cost. Especially in remote parts of Nepal, the access to hospitals is nothing necessarily given. Through health camps more people can be reached and diseases or medical problems can be treated without burdening the patients with costs.


  • Network Partner Meeting
  • On 10th of September, JOY invited its Network Partner to a Meeting to discuss future projects and activities. All Network Partner agreed on the importance of more cooperation in order to reach more people living in poverty and deprivation. After the meeting was opened the participants started discussing the importance on doing follow ups. Everyone agreed that it is necessary to meet quarterly, so that important issues and questions can be raised and discussed. A MoU was signed to set up the conditions of this cooperation. These meeting should be a platform for all Partners to find assistance and provide support.
